An Alabama prison was on lockdown on Saturday after a riot in which the warden and a guard were stabbed, the state Corrections Department said.

About 100 inmates at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, about 80 kilometres north of Mobile, were involved in the disturbance, which started late on Friday, the department said in a statement.

The trouble began with a fight between inmates in a dormitory. The guard was stabbed when he tried to detain one of the inmates, it said.

Warden Carter Davenport was also stabbed when he and other officers entered the dorm. Injuries to Davenport and the guard were not life-threatening.

Inmates then set a fire in a hallway outside the housing unit. Three Correctional Department emergency response teams were deployed to restore order.

The statement said some inmates were able to post photos online using cell phones. Guards were searching the prison for illegal phones and other contraband.

News website Al.com posted photos and a video apparently shot by an inmate, showing prisoners setting fires and roaming freely through the jail. Several inmates covered their faces with towels.

The website said prisoners were using social media to report that “gates are rolled up” and that they had overturned beds.

“Please pray for my son in Holman Prison a riot Lord Jesus,” wrote Zannice Houston on Facebook, referring to her son Jamario.

Criminal charges are pending against inmates involved in the disturbance. The prison will remain on lockdown until an investigation is finished, the statement said

Most of you know I’m not real big on promoting product. Gerber sent me a bunch of knives to test over the last year. Very impressed. So far, this same blade has done the bear in this video, three beaver, a Sitka Blacktail deer, and still does not need sharpening. That’s what I’m looking for in a knife.

More product videos to come. Thanks for watching.

How TOPS knives ‘Brakimo’ met my needs

Sean Curtis
Author: Sean Curtis

To those in the know, TOPS Knives are synonymous with quality and innovation. Formed in 1998, the company’s mission was to create awesome knives for use in various fields ranging from military, law enforcement, survival, and marital arts. This year at SHOT Show 2016, TOPS introduced the Brakimo, a new blade with an interesting heritage designed for bushcrafting. Intrigued, I contacted TOPS to ask them about the blade. They sent one for testing and I ran it through its paces with several basic, bushcrafting tasks. I found it to be an impressive tool capable of handling anyth…

Specialized officers put on patrol as shootings continue to

CINCINNATI (Jeff Hirsh) — Cincinnati’s police chief assigned more cops to the streets as shootings continued to spike. With shootings up some 32 percent in Cincinnati so far in 2015, police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell was moving some police officers out of specialized units and into patrol. He was also defending his efforts after criticism from city council. People may remember back in June when the chief’s summer-safety plan was unveiled. For a variety of reasons (the death of Sonny Kim, union opposition to some scheduling changes) parts of the plan such as tougher enforcement of the teen curfew never happened. Although the chief said much of the plan was implemented. With public safety the biggest part of Cincinnati’s budget, there were questions Monday, August 31, on what taxpayers were getting for their money. Chief Jeffrey Blackwell defended his administration as members of city council’s law committee questioned staffing, spending, and safety. The chief said overtime expenditures were actually down nearly two percent in 2015 and said overtime accumulated by some of his aides were not out of line. Talking with reporters, the chief dismissed criticism of him by police union president Kathy Harrell, saying he has his job, she has hers. I don’t think that most chief and the FOP president have tea together. I didn’t come here to necessarily be in that situation. I came here to run this agency in the most efficient and effective manner possible, we are doing very wonderful things and it’s not about me, it’s about we. The chief said 24 officers were being moved from specialized units to street patrol to help combat the increase in shootings. There were 316 so far in 2015, including homicides; 239 in 2014 during the same period, and 299 the year before. Chief Blackwell also defended programs like his youth basketball initiative saying the kids have character and leadership training in addition to sports with a benefit of engaging youth for a long-term crime solution. You put your money where your mouth is. If you want to walk the walk you put money into the programs you believe will transform the city. And Im not too concerned always about crime and criminality that I forget about life and livability, said Blackwell. The chief said despite the increase in shootings, homicides were down two percent. City council members also learned that body cameras for patrol officers may be here by spring 2016. There were several issues still to be ironed out like what type to buy, how and where to store all the video, and how to handle open records requests. A cop’s guide to probable cause

Jason Hoschouer
Author: Jason Hoschouer

I understand not all of us are as excitable about the vehicle code as those of us in traffic enforcement, but I promise that having even a rudimentary knowledge base surrounding that rather large book can come in quite handy when you're looking for a good reason to stop and chat with a driver. I also understand that not all of us have a “Rain Man”-like rolodex embedded in our respective psyches in which we store the aforementioned vehicle codes.

The key to it isn't necessarily having a numbered section on the tip of one's tongue to flaun…

U S Supreme Court - San Diego ID Law - Kolender v. Lawson (461 U.S. 352, 1983)

EDWARD LAWSON
Civil Rights Activist – ProPer Inc.

On his own he took a civil rights case to the Supreme Court of the United States – and won.In California cops stopped citizens without probable cause or a reasonable suspicion and asked for I.D. Typically black, brown and young people. Edward Lawson as a pedestrian was stopped by cops and asked for I.D. more than 15 times in an 18 month period in San Diego County. He kept written notes about what happened and the cops that stopped him
and brought one combined legal action first in California Courts and then in U.S. Federal Court.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled in his favor. The San Diego Sheriff’s Department then appealed the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court In Kolender v. Lawson (461 U.S. 352, 1983) the United States Supreme Court ruled that a statute (in California or in any state) authorizing a police officer to arrest a citizen merely for refusing to present identification was unconstitutionally vague.

His case has been cited in 1000s of later cases. Alas, in 2008 stop and I.D. laws in some states are back on the books.

At Least 3 Killed, Gunman Yells ‘Heil Hiter’
At least three dead in two shootings at Jewish centers in Kansas
Third person was reported to be critically wounded; police report one person was in custody; man reportedly yelled ‘Heil Hitler’ when police arrested him.
(ABC) The 73-year-old man in custody in the shooting at a Jewish community center and retirement community in Overland Park, Kansas, that left three people dead is reportedly the former Grand Dragon of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.
Frazier Glenn Cross Jr., of Aurora, Mo., was taken into custody in the parking lot of an elementary school near the scene of the shootings, law enforcement sources said.
Cross is an alias for Frazier Glenn Miller, the former KKK leader, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

In a statement released tonight, the SPLC said it was able to identify Cross as Miller after a phone conversation with Miller’s wife, Marge, in which she told them police had come to her home and told her that her husband had been arrested in the shootings.

Among the three people killed in the shootinngs were a 14-year-old Eagle Scout and his grandfather, according to the family of the two.

“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the tragic loss of Dr. William Lewis Corporon and Reat Griffin Underwood (Losen) who died as a result of the injuries they sustained in today’s shooting at the Jewish Community Center. Dr. Corporon was Reat’s Grandfather, whom he loved very much,” said a statement signed “Will Corporon, Son and Uncle.”

The two were shot at the town’s Jewish Community Center, Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said. One died at the scene and the other died after being taken to a hospital, he said.

The third victim was a woman who was shot at Village Shalom retirement community, Douglass said. She died on the scene.

It was believed the shooter fired at two other people, but neither was hit, the police chief said.

“We have no indication that he knew the victims,” Douglass said.

“We’re investigating it as a hate crime, we’re investigating it as a criminal act, we haven’t ruled out anything,” Overland Park Police Chief John Douglass said.

“There was a shotgun that was involved,” he said. “We are exploring the possibility that a handgun was involved in the shooting at the two persons that he missed, and we are looking at the possibility of an assault rifle.”

According to the family statement, Underwood was a freshman at Blue Valley High School, and participated in debate, theatre “and had a beautiful voice. Reat had a passion for life, and touched so many people in his young age.” He was an Eagle Scout and “loved spending time camping and hunting with his Grandfather, Father, and brother,” the statement said.

Corporon practiced family medicine in Marlow and Duncan, Okla., from 1976 through 2003, before moving with his wife to the Kansas City area to be closer to their grandchildren, the statement said.

Police had still not released the identities of the victims late this evening, but Rev. Adam Hamilton of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood said the two male victims were members of the church.

Hamilton led prayers for the victims’ family this afternoon during Palm Sunday services.

The Jewish Community Center confirmed the shooting on its Facebook page and said it occurred near the Lewis and Shirley White Theater entrance and that the building was put on lockdown. According to the center’s website, a production of “To Kill a Mockingbird” was scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) –
Overland Park police are working shootings at two separate Jewish-related locations.
One person is dead and a second person is undergoing emergency surgery at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, authorities confirm.
A shooting was reported about 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City, according to an Overland Park Fire Department spokesman. This happened at the Lewis and Shirley White Theatre inside the center.
Teens were auditioning for KC Superstar auditions and parents are frantically trying to get to their children.
A second shooting was reported at Village Shalom, which is an assisted living center at 5500 West 123rd St.
Worried relatives of residents tell KCTV5 that Village Shalom has been placed on lockdown.
There were no immediate word on injuries. A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper confirms that a suspect is in custody.
Phyllis Cantor, who is undergoing rehabilitation at Village Shalom, said she heard the sound of sirens. She said many police officers are at the scene and there focus appears to be on a white car in the parking lot.
