The Independent Gazette sits down with taxpayer watchdog, Controller Walter Griffith to discuss what’s cookin’ at the Luzerne County Prison, what we can do about it, and if outgoing Warden Joseph Piazza is eligible for yet another pension, a Luzerne County pension. We are urging County Council Chair Tim McGinley to require Lt. John Ameen to appear before Council this Tuesday, the 18th, so he could answer a simple question, “Has LCCF management eaten meals different from those cooked for inmates.” This should require a simple “Yes” or “No” response. The whole intent of the Home Rule Charter was to provide greater transparency in county government. Every indication is that food purchases made for the prison include items not offered on the inmate menu. Soooooooooooo, let’s get the guy responsible for ordering, get it on record, and ask the question, Mr. McGinley.
